Nugent, an outspoken supporter of President Trump who has visited his White House, has a history of making controversial political statements.

Earlier this year, Nugent, a National Rifle Association board member, called high school students who led protests against gun violence “soulless” and “ignorant” in a fiery interview. He has also previously compared Democrats to “rabid coyotes” and made vulgar remarks about party leaders including former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.
